Piz Kesch, 3417 m: ascent by the famous needle

Switzerland - Europe

Piz Kesch - [trans]
15.07 - 14.09.2024
The Piz Kesch is an excellent vantage point between Silvretta and Bernina. His climb over the so-called needle offers great alpine climbing in good rock.
The route is varied and leads through intersections, over slabs and airy ridges on the highest point of the needle. Now the crossing follows to the main summit, with an ups and downs over rocky ridges and gullies. At the summit we will be rewarded with a magnificent view of the Bernina massif and the peaks of Mittelbünden!

Your advantages at a glance:

- most beautiful mountain view between Upper and Lower Engadin
- 2 guests for optimal care and maximum security
- stimulating climbing in good rock
- cozy and original SAC hut
- in Grisons we are at home, here we know each other!

This tour can be booked as a private tour on any date!

Program

Ascent of the Piz Kesch from the Chamanna d'Es-cha over the needle.

1st day: Meeting point at 14.45 at the train station in Tiefencastel. Shared drive to the parking lot of the hut on the Albulapassstrasse at Punt Granda, at 2256 m. Climb on the good hut path to Chamanna d'Es-cha, 2594 m, dinner and discussion of the tour. Ascent time approx. 1 3/4 hours.

2nd day: Climb over the mountain path to Porta d'Es-cha, 3008 m. Via the glacier we reach the beginning of the ridge and via this to the beginning of the actual climbing on the distinctive rock needle. The climbing in the 3rd and 4th degree of difficulty leads in the lower part directly over the ridge edge and offers us as a highlight a short, steep passage in the upper 4th degree at the key point. From the summit of the needle, 3386 m, the crossing follows the partly airy ridge to the main summit of Piz Kesch at 3417 m. Descent on the normal route back to Porta d'Es-cha and the hut. Common descent to the pass road and return to Tiefencastel, where we arrive later in the afternoon. Ascent time approx. 5 hours, total walking time approx. 8 to 9 hours.
