High mountaineering week-end - Rheinwaldhorn

Switzerland - Europe

Rheinwaldhorn - Rheinwaldhorn or Adula
20.07 - 21.07.2024
The Rheinwaldhorn is one of the most beautiful panoramic mountains in the Alps. Hidden between the Hinterrhein, the Blenio Valley and Vals lies an unknown and unjustly little visited touring area. A weekend that you will remember forever!
In Italian, the Rheinwaldhorn is called Adula and is not only the highest peak in Ticino, but the culmination of the entire Adula group in the border region of Ticino and Grisons. The mountain is one of many first ascents of the famous priest Placidus a Spescha from the monastery of Disentis. He already climbed the mountain from the Zapport side in 1789! What an impressive achievement when you think of the equipment and infrastructure of that time...

Your advantages at a glance:

- Ascent of the highest mountain of Ticino
- cosy hut with Ticino charm
- boundless view over (almost) the whole Alps
- in Graubünden we are at home, here we know every mountain ;-)!

This tour can be booked as a private tour on any date!

Planned program

Saturday: meeting point at 11.45 a.m. at the post office in Olivone or at another meeting point by appointment. Travel by bus from the Mountain Sports School to Lago di Luzzone and through the tunnel into Val di Carassino. From Bolla, 1717 m, we hike to the Adula Hut SAC, 2012 m, and further to the Capanna Adula UTOE, 2393 m. Dinner and discussion of Sunday's tour.
Walking time about 3 hours.

Sunday: Ascent to the summit of the Rheinwaldhorn, 3402 m. Over the Vadrecc di Bresciana, past the Adula Pass, we reach the summit via a steep firn flank and a short ridge and can enjoy the deserved, magnificent panoramic view. The descent follows the ascent track back to the hut and on to Bolla. Drive to Olivone and individual journey home.
Ascent time about 4 hours, total walking time about 9 hours.

Variant: If, due to the snowfalls of last winter, conditions permit a descent over the Läntagletscher, the crossing of the Rheinwaldhorn from Olivone to Vals is an option. We will determine the definitive route choice before the start of the tour and adjust the programme accordingly. In this case the end point of the tour would be in Ilanz.
