For the Alpine Action Unlimited mountain guide team

Thomas Villars, certified mountain guide IVBV and snow sports instructor with higher vocational education and diploma.

Highly trained and qualified

Our mountain sports school only employs highly trained and qualified Swiss mountain guides with a federal certificate. Only those who have many years of mountain experience and have successfully completed the demanding training may bear the title of "mountain guide with federal certificate". This normally takes three years in course form and can be completed part-time.
The training includes an entrance test and 11 modules, which are divided into three parts:

1st year of training: "Mountain guide aspirant course" - 7 compulsory modules and 2 optional modules.
2nd and 3rd year of training: "Tour guiding under the supervision of a certified mountain guide".
3rd year of training: "Mountain guide course" - 2 compulsory modules.

Memberships

Swiss Mountain Guide Association: Qualified guiding

All our mountain guides are members of our professional association, the Swiss Mountain Guides Association (SBV). There are currently around 1400 qualified mountain guides organised in the SBC, a good 2 percent of whom are female mountain guides. All mountain guides are professional leaders of mountain, climbing, ski or snowboard tours, canyoning, snowshoeing, icefall climbing and trekking and expeditions and provide their guests, individuals or groups, with intensive mountain and nature experiences. We are responsible for the professional preparation and execution of the tour, with special attention to the safety aspect, and have a great deal of theoretical and practical competence. All mountain guides are outgoing, responsible, physically and mentally resilient personalities.
The SBC advocates thorough professional training with a modern range of courses that meet the human, technical and professional demands placed on mountain guides. Accident prevention is a high priority for the association.
Its members willingly provide information on route conditions and material, and the rescue of people in distress in the mountains is an ethical imperative for them. At the same time, the SBC is committed to preserving nature and protecting the professional interests of its members. It demands competitive tourism that does not destroy its natural foundations.
In the interest of safety for guests, the SBC demands a high standard of training from all providers. The association fights vigorously against non-qualified competitors who guide for remuneration without proof of appropriate training and thus endanger the reputation of the profession. When booking, make sure that your chosen provider only hires or arranges for trained and appropriately qualified Swiss mountain guides.
A trained and qualified mountain guide is entitled to wear the badge of the International Federation of Mountain Guide Associations IVBV. The logo is protected by law and, together with the badge that every mountain guide carries, is regarded as legitimisation to practise the profession.

Januar 2014 in Kraft getreten.
