Ortles following the Hintergrat

Italy - Europe

Ortler - Ortler
13.07 - 31.08.2024
The Ortler is the highest mountain in South Tyrol and east of the Swiss border the highest mountain of the Eastern Alps. From its summit you can enjoy a view that reaches over the Silvretta, the Ötztal Alps, the Dolomites, the Brenta and Presanellagruppe on beautiful days to Finsteraarhorn!
Even the deep view of the bold plant of the road on the Stelvio Pass remains unforgotten. The most beautiful ridge climb leads over the wild Hintergrat, which requires a good alpine experience in rock and ice. The descent takes place over the Tabarettakamm, with which we exceed the Ortler over its most beautiful routes.

Your advantages at a glance:

- Ascension of the highest mountain of the Eastern Alps
- Exceeding with ascent over the worthwhile backbone and descent via the normal route
- incredible views
- On the way in the Stelvio National Park

This tour can be booked as a private tour on any date!

Scheduled program

1st day: Meeting point at 10.45 am at the train station in Landquart (a detailed timetable for the arrival by public transport is attached to the booking confirmation). Drive via Flüela- and Ofen-Pass to Val Müstair and to Sulden, 1844 m. The chairlift takes us to Langenstein and in an entertaining march to the Hintergrathütte, 2661 m. Dinner overlooking the Königspitze northeast face and discussion of the tour over the Hintergrat. Ascent time approx. 1 hour.

2nd day: After breakfast we reach in the dark over a short stretch of the lower part of the Hintergrat, we climb over lanes and easy climbing points to the Upper Knott. After the broad firn burr, we traverse under the signal head and climb up the short crack that marks the key point of the ascent. Now follow steep, exposed rock passage, until after another steep Firnaufschwung over the last rocks the summit is reached. What a panorama! The descent takes place first over the upper Ortlerferner, past the Lombardi bivouac and over the iron chain, partly exposed ridge to the Payerhütte at 3029 m, where we enjoy a deserved rest. Now the descent back to Sulden via the Tabaret hut and the return to Landquart! Ascent time approx. 5 to 6 hours, total walking time approx. 10 to 12 hours.
